DIY ONION HAIR MASK

Hi beautiful Curlistas!

I have had a hectic two weeks! If anybody tells you that starting a business is easy, DEY LIE! Lol!!

So anyways, it’s Mask of the Month time again! I can’t believe we’re in May already! I remember January taking two months to finish and then the rest flew by in a blur.

This month we’re going to be getting into something a bit smelly but VERY EFFECTIVE for hair growth! I’m talking about ONIONS!

Yessss… Cringe all you want, but onion juice is rich in sulphur that boosts collagen production in the tissues, and helps in regrowth of hair. It is great for re-growing hair on completely bald spots.

To make this hair mask, you will need:

1 Onion (Peeled)

4 tbsps of Olive Oil

A grater

Two small bowls

A strainer

An applicator bottle

A shower cap

4-6 drops of Peppermint/Lavender Essential Oil (to help with the smell)

Method:

Grate the onions into bowl. Strain the grated onion into another bowl, using the back of a spoon to squeeze the juice out of the pulp. Add the Olive Oil and essential oil of your choice to the onion juice. Pour into the applicator bottle and shake vigorously.

Application:

Apply to dry, unwashed hair. Part your hair into sections and use clips to secure them. Starting from the back, apply the mixture to the roots of your hair and massage it in. Cover hair with a shower cap and leave on for at least an hour. Rinse with water. Shampoo and deep condition your hair.

NOTES: When you try this hair mask, I suggest you do so on a day when you are at home and not planning to go out. I also suggest that you wear an old tee shirt throughout application. Even with the essential oils, some of the smell might come through….and it just may leave your hair smelling a bit “green” even after a good shampooing. LOL Luckily the smell totally dissipates after a day or two after application.

Also, some people say you should look for the red onions, as opposed to the regular white/yellow ones… I have used both and they seem to have the same benefits. You can choose which one you wish to use for this mask. Regardless of which one you choose, you will get the benefits of the onion.

You can also circumvent using this mask by eating onions everyday.

Anyhoo…

The PROS definitely outweigh the one CON with this hair mask.

SOME PROS:

  1. Onions are rich in antibacterial and have anti-fungal properties.
  2. They minimizes breakage and thinning.
  3. Nourishes the hair follicle and helps restore nutrients to the scalp.
  4. Helps reverse premature greying.
  5. Adds volume to the hair.
  6. Can be used to fight dandruff.
  7. Improves blood circulation to the scalp.

That’s it!

I hope this was helpful and easy to understand.
